Morningstar On Demand Delivery Method Change for ESG Data - Jan. 31, 2024

Morningstar On Demand has an upcoming change to the delivery method for specific fund-level ESG data packages, relevant for clients consuming fund-level ESG data via On Demand Warehouse XML.

Please note that Warehouse package ESG nodes will be updated with November data, and this will be the final update in Warehouse XML.

Effective Jan. 31, 2024, On Demand will change the delivery method for the following fund-level ESG data packages:

• ESG Ratings (ESG Risk)
• Product Involvement
• Sustainable Attributes

What is Changing?

On Demand will be modifying the delivery of the below fund-level ESG packages from the current Warehouse XML to a flat-file delivery system.

These new ESG files will now be accessible in On Demand's New Warehouse tab:

• ESG Ratings (ESG Risk)
• ESG Product Involvement
• ESG Sustainable Attributes

As part of this update, the following Warehouse XML nodes will be retired:

• /FundShareClass/ESG
• /Category/ESG

And the following nodes from GetUniverse XML nodes will be retired:

• /FundShareClassList/ShareClass/LastUpdated_NT/[_Type="4096"]
• Any clients using content 4096 to get updates on Regulation data need to use content 2048 instead.

How is Morningstar On Demand impacted, and what actions do clients need to take?

To ensure a smooth transition, we kindly request clients review the attached spreadsheet that provides mappings between the current Warehouse XML and the new ESG files. Please note both Fund and Category data points are within their corresponding package in the same way, due to both being available within the fund share class node in Warehouse (/FundShareClass/ESG).

Accounts that are currently entitled to ESG Warehouse will automatically gain access to the new ESG files, which are already available in the live environment.

Please note that ESG data will be retired from Warehouse XML on Jan. 31, 2024. Until then, both the new files and Warehouse XML data will run in parallel, ensuring a seamless transition.

To programmatically download files from the New Warehouse tab in On Demand, clients need to follow these three steps:

• Login
• Get a list of available files*
  • https://edw.morningstar.com/GetWarehouseFileListXML.aspx?ClientId=[CLIENTID]&FileType=4&Region=ALL&ProdType=ALL&StartDate=YYYY-MM-DD&EndDate=YYYY-MM-DD&Level=ESG
    • FileType=4 for ESG Product Involvement
    • FileType=5 for ESG Sustainability Attributes
    • FileType=6 for ESG Ratings
      • *ESG Product Involvement and ESG Ratings will support both FULL and DELTA productions. ESG sustainability Ratings will only support FULL production.
• Download a file using the <URL> node from previous step
